‘Britain’s Got Talent’ has a diverse mix of artists from various age ranges. From children to elders, BGT is full of unexpected ability. Mel Day is another positive example. He’s a 77-year-old vocalist attempting the legendary Wilson Pickett song ‘Land of 1,000 Dances.’
Mel’s style is outstanding. He wore a burgundy suit with a purple shirt and vest. As soon as the song starts, he begins moving and dancing. The audience is instantly on their feet and grooving along.
Ant and Dec, the BGT hosts, are having fun backstage replicating the song’s horn hits. Mel is a natural performer who appears at ease on stage, and his voice is powerful and soulful.
Judge Alesha Dixon tells Mel, “When you have a soul like that, it will never leave you!” Mel replies, ‘I’ve got a lot more to give, darling! ‘I want to have your baby!’ declares Judge David Walliams. The audience roars with laughter.
Simon Cowell becomes more serious, stating, ‘Sorry, you don’t just go on this stage at 77 and sing like that. You must have wished to be a singer when you were younger. Mel informs him that he has been disappointed several times.
Simon says, ‘Well, you know what, time is key,’ and the judges begin voting. Each casts a ‘yes’ vote, and it is up to Simon to provide some drama.
He tells Mel, ‘I guess we have approximately 4,000 people here, so I’m going to make it 4,000 and four yeses! Everyone cheers, and Mel beams with joy. He had been waiting for this moment all his life.
