🌸Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos cry on live television at the loss of their 17-year-old dog Chewie. Ripa says, “She gave us so much.”🌸

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are grieving the loss of their beloved dog, Chewie, who passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the age of 17.On Wednesday’s edition of Live with Kelly and Mark, the couple revealed that Chewie had passed away. Consuelos said that they had to put down the white and brown Shih Tzu.

“Yesterday was a difficult day for us.” He said that the two of them had a veterinarian come to their flat in New York City to perform in-home compassionate euthanasia on Chewie. “We had to say goodbye to Chewie yesterday,” he stated.

Chewie had not eaten for a number of days and had been eating less and less over the preceding two weeks. Consuelos added, “She was very dehydrated and had some neurological issues.” “And you think to yourself, ‘Okay, I’m doing the right thing. This is going to be difficult, but…’” As a married couple, this is perhaps one of the most difficult things we have ever had to do.

He said, “I am confident that pet owners at home will be able to understand this.” “Only someone who has a pet can truly understand this kind of loss.” It is sorrow. It is really anguish. However, we were certain that we had made the correct decision since the following several days were going to be very difficult for her.

Ripa and Consuelos adopted Chewie after Ripa first saw the dog during an adoption program on Live. Consuelos pointed out that we would not know Chewie if it weren’t for this program. “Our children were raised alongside her.”

Ripa, who was clearly distraught, wiped away her tears as he talked. Eventually, she buried her head in her hands. Consuelos informed his wife, “I understand that this is difficult for you, so I will take care of the hard work.”

However, Ripa wanted to say something and apologized to the crowd for crying.

I sincerely apologize. I thought I had gotten rid of everything, everyone. “I really thought I got it all out, and I apologize because this is not how I wanted this to go down,” she stated.

The Emmy winner continued by sharing recollections of Chewie. Ripa stated, “She gave us so much.” “We are really thankful for this puppy. … Chewie stayed right there until each of our children went off to college and moved out on their own. Our loyal comrade.

“We’ve been quite fortunate. We are incredibly blessed to have individuals in our life; we have not experienced a loss like this before. All of our parents are still alive. “We are very lucky,” Ripa stated. “I feel really bad crying in front of you when there are so many bigger problems in the world, and I know that,” she said. However, you need to realize that this dog was really exceptional, and she was a wonderful girl.

The pair informed the live audience that they were met with an outpouring of love from their friends when the news of Chewie’s loss became public. Ripa made a joke, saying, “I would go so far as to say it was presidential.” “People, such as the mail carrier, came.” Chewie was a well-loved part of the community, so many came to say farewell to her. She was not just our dog; she was like the dog of the whole neighborhood.

Ripa then shared the emotional act she did after Chewie’s loss.

“She was very protective of her face and never allowed us to kiss it.” The talk show host remembered, “She was not that dog.” “After she passed away last night, I kissed her face a thousand times.” I kissed her on the nose for the first time.

Ripa made a joke, saying, “I know that she was like somewhere in dog heaven, pissed off.” “However, I didn’t mind because it was just so nice to have that.”

Consuelos said, “You were a great dog mom. She adored you.”

Chewie was one of the two dogs who belonged to the Consuelos household. The Live hosts are also the pet parents of Lena, a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix whom Ripa adopted in 2020.

Ripa and Consuelos have kept fans informed on Chewie’s health throughout the last three weeks on Live. They said that the sick dog was no longer able to move and had ceased behaving like she normally did.

On Wednesday, Consuelos assured Ripa, who was weeping, “We’re going to get through this.” “We’re going to get through this together.”
