Mel B explains why she rushed off ‘America’s Got Talent’: Simon Cowell’s stupid’ remarks got me upset.
Mel B has broken her silence after storming offstage during Tuesday night’s live broadcast of America’s Got Talent, following a disagreement with Simon Cowell.
The former Spice Girls actress, who is now going through a nasty divorce with estranged husband Stephen Belafonte, was not pleased when catty Cowell made light of her relationship status as the cameras rolled.
Following a performance in which one of the participants experienced a technological malfunction, Cowell said, “I kind of imagine this would be like Mel B’s wedding night—a lot of anticipation, not much promise or delivery.”
Mel seemed to have taken offense at the joke, as she took her cup of cold water and flung it at her employer and colleague judge before leaving the stage.
Mel, who returned to her position on the judging panel before the next singer entered the stage, has finally addressed the issue, revealing Simon’s comments threw her off on a night filled with conflicting emotions.
“The act before made me cry, because it’s all about dads and cancer, and I just lost my dad, and then he goes and says something stupid like that, so then I got angry,” she told Extra. “How do you know what my wedding night was like all those years ago?”
The pop star-turned-TV personality also told the news show that allegations that she has moved on from her second failed marriage and is now seeing a Beverly Hills police officer are completely false.
“I’m single,” she explained. “I have lots of people who help me with my security, but I’m totally single.”
Mel filed for divorce from Stephen, the father of her five-year-old daughter Madison, earlier this year, and the former couple is scheduled to face off on September 25 in a trial where they will dispute her desire for a permanent restraining order.
