Yolanda Turner teaches at Sumner High School in St. Louis, Missouri. The video of the instructor demonstrating her remarkable dance talents has already gone viral. It all began in the final week before winter break, when the students were humming with enthusiasm. “The students were playing games. “They were eating and having a break when they decided to call me out,” Turner explains.
O’Rian took a courageous step forward to question his former teacher. The cafeteria started playing “Lose Control” by Missy Elliott, which happened to be one of Turner’s favorite songs. “That song is probably one of my favorites. It certainly gets everyone off their feet. So when it came on, I was ecstatic, and the audience pumped me up,” Turner explained.
The young challenger began dancing boldly in the center of a ring made by enthusiastic pupils. As O’Rian ended his act, Turner took his chance to answer. “I was watching him, and I’m like, Oh god, don’t make me have to get on these knees; don’t make me use these knees,” Turner later said of the moment before she rushed in.
The pupils were taken aback when their instructor dropped down on the dance floor and erupted into a performance they had never seen before, making her body move effortlessly among their wild shouts. “It caught me completely off guard — I was in shock, and I had to regroup myself because I had no idea what was going to happen,” O’Rian recalled after seeing his old teacher’s jaw-dropping performance.
Turner stated that O’Rian had previously been one of her students. “But we are always engaging on some level. He’s either coming to my room or offering to help. We are musically oriented. We sing and dance.”. If you see him, you will see him dancing.”
Turner, who has spent her entire life involved with music and dance, says it was nothing new to her. She has taught at performing arts institutions and enjoys DJing as a pastime. She has been teaching at Sumner High School for many years, but this unexpected event exposed a youthful and vibrant personality that many kids had not seen before.
She admitted that the event was unanticipated, but she is glad she was able to bring so much joy to her pupils before their Christmas vacation.
